“Life is change. Change is constant. Growth is optional.”
The world is changing at a pace we’ve never seen before. I have lived by this quote for 25 years and it has served me well. I’ve been thinking a lot about reinvention (and upskilling) for the last several weeks and what this means to each of us.
As industries are being disrupted overnight, traditional career paths are disappearing, and technology is reshaping how we live and work. It’s no longer a question of if we need to adapt—it’s how.
According to some of the latest research, approximately 44% of workers will require reskilling within the next five years to remain competitive. Reinvention is no longer a one-time event; it’s a skill we must cultivate. But where do you even start?
The best place to start is with your why, your personal purpose.
When everything around you shifts, the one thing that keeps you grounded is your purpose. What truly matters to you? What impact do you want to make? Knowing your deeper “why” becomes your compass in uncertain times.
If you’ve never really explored this, here are a few questions to reflect on:
- If money and external expectations didn’t matter, what work would you love to do?
- What conversations light you up?
- What problems do you feel deeply called to solve?
Reinvention isn’t about throwing everything away and starting from scratch—it’s about aligning more closely with what energizes and fulfills you. It’s taking stock of your life, your experiences, your expertise, and looking towards the future to what really brings you joy.
What are you willing to let go of?
Change often requires shedding old beliefs, habits, and even identities. The roles you’ve played in the past may no longer serve who you’re becoming.
Ask yourself:
- What stories am I telling myself about who I have to be?
- What’s one limiting belief I need to release to step into my next chapter?
- Where am I holding onto comfort instead of embracing growth?
The truth is, reinvention isn’t always comfortable, but staying stuck is far worse.
Part of discovering your personal purpose is knowing what you are truly passionate about. Passion alone isn’t enough—but it’s a great starting point.
We’ve all heard the phrase, Follow your passion. But let’s be honest—passion alone doesn’t always pay the bills. What does work is finding the intersection between what excites you, what you’re good at, and what the world needs.
Consider:
- What activities make you lose track of time?
- What are you naturally skilled at that others struggle with?
- How could you turn your strengths into something valuable for others?
This is where reinvention gets exciting—where curiosity meets opportunity.
The World Needs More People Who Are Alive with Purpose
When you can align your own purpose to that of a great company, then you truly can reach your full potential.
In this AI era, we must dig inside of ourselves to know who we are, who we want to be, and who are we meant to serve. We cannot forget the beauty of humanity, our planet and we need to find sustainable ways to balance technology and people for the good of ourselves and our planet.
We are in a time of massive transformation individually and collectively right now. It is both an evolution (all the changes in our world) and an involution (the changes happening within ourselves).
The people who will thrive are not those who resist change but those who embrace it—who see reinvention as an ongoing process of stepping into their highest potential.
So I’ll leave you with this to consider:
- What’s one small step you can take today toward your next evolution?
- Who do you need to become to create the life you truly want?
Because at the end of the day, reinvention isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about becoming more you.
