A dream job is a common expression…but do we all have the same definition for this? Since I’ve made it my mission to help others improve their lives, I wanted to make sure that we defined it clearly so I can serve others to the maximum potential in discovering their dream jobs.
you absolutely love to do
that supports the lifestyle
you choose to have.
This sounds simple enough…so why don’t more people have their dream jobs? Most of us live in a world that is chaotic, rushed, and stressed. We have bills to pay, families to take care of, health concerns, pressures from all areas of our lives, and very little time to do any inner searching or connecting to our true desires. Some people are fortunate to have figured out what they are meant to do but the majority of people trek through their lives, trying to keep their heads above water and stay ahead of the game.
You might think that finding your dream job just means changing jobs, but there is much more to it than might first appear. For some people, this may mean finding a new challenge within their current company. They are in the right place; they just have the wrong position. For others, it may involve making an entire career change. Often, I see people who have a certain educational and career background that they feel chained to. But they are too afraid to let it go because they have invested so much time, effort, and money into that choice. It was either the wrong choice for them, or they have changed their values over time, so they end up feeling miserable and trapped. And for others, it may mean starting up their own company to create their dream job—and it scares them to death to think about stepping into the unknown. A dream job is using your natural gifts to make a difference in the world. Everyone has gifts they have been given and it’s up to you to identify what those are. This is why it is so important to know what your gifts are and who you are meant to serve.
No matter what your socio-economic status is, what country you live in, or what kind of upbringing you’ve had, there is one thing every single person on this planet has in common: 24 hours in a day. That’s it. What you do with this time is what will make the difference in your life. Allowing some time to daydream is one of the best investments you can make with your time. The secret is really to take some time for yourself…in a quiet place that is calming for you, removed from your daily routines and stress, to dig deep within yourself and figure out the answers to some vital questions.
In “My Dream Job” process, a 9 step blueprint to discovering your dream job that I mentor people through, one of the steps we work with involves finding the answers to some very soul searching questions. For example, what are your passions? What do you love to do that you could do it all day long without ever getting bored? How do you find your purpose? I believe that every person has a unique reason for being here and unique talents that make you shine. What are you meant to be doing with your life? We have only this life right now and it is so important to make the most of it. Time is a valuable commodity and life is constantly changing. Who are you meant to serve? There are certain people that you love to work with or work for…do you know who they are?
The answers to these questions will begin your journey to finding your dream job. If you feel nervous just thinking about this, or you have a little voice saying it’s too late, be grateful for the inner sign—which you might recognize as fear—and know that it is time for you to make a change in your life. It is time for you to develop and grow—and it’s NEVER too late for this! It is so important to work with something that you love to do. You deserve this!
