Susanne Sweet is an Associate Professor at Stockholm School of Economics and a research manager at Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets. Her research covers a broad range of topics on corporate sustainability and responsibility. In 2004 she, together with three doctoral students, founded Sustainability Research Group, SuRe, that in 2007 received the Globe Award for “For an outstanding and tangible research in the field of CSR”.
Her PhD thesis from year 2000 looked at various industries transformation towards improved environmental practices as a result of the Montreal Protocol, a UN treaty regulating the use of chemicals that were harmful to the ozone layer. She has also studied the potential for market developments for recycled materials and participated in a working group that evaluated different scenarios and policies for recycling and producer responsibility.
Susanne is currently on the management team and conducts research in a large cross-disciplinary research program on sustainable fashion, Mistra Future Fashion, aiming to a systemic change of the Swedish fashion industry leading to sustainable development of the industry and wider society. She is also doing research on the CSR related concept of community engagement and is performing studies on the mining industry in South Africa, Sweden and Australia in cooperation with Dr. Rebecca Lawrence, Department of Sociology, Stockholm University and Dr. Håkan Tarras-Wahlberg, SuRe-affiliated researcher. She is also a member and co-founding partner of NCCR, Nordic Centre for Corporate Responsibility, who jointly conducts research with a Nordic focus.
She is on the editorial board of the journal Business Strategy and the Environment and appears as a reviewer in leading sustainability journals. She was a member of the Reference Group for CSR, Globalt Ansvar, Foreign Ministry Sweden (2008-2012), she is a board member the SSE Research Board, a former board member of the Greening of Industry Network and on the Academic Advisory Board of Sparbanksakademin.As part of her interest connecting research and practice she has been co-organizing several conferences and workshops on CSR and sustainability, for example, Misum stakeholder workshop, March 2015; Sustainable Business in a Sustainable World in 2012 (with SEI, SRC & af Jochnick foundation), Climate Change – Business Opportunities 2008 (with IFL & Mistra).
